Unexpected Offer as a State Director With Higher Grade

Thank you boss for offering me a State Director post in the metropolitan state with a higher grade than I am currently holding it. 

Boss, as I informed you over the phone, I just accepted a new posting order to a rural state where I am from, as the new state director and will be carrying my existing grade. 

I want to tell you boss that I was really moved with your call offer yesterday. It came after a deep inside emotional farewell bidding session by MyTeams in the office hours earlier. I did not mean that I refused your offer or did not appreciate it boss. Of course, I must be appreciative when it is about a privileged offer and unexpected promotion. But boss, I have mentally committed to my self to be in my hometown for reasons I could not explain here. 

You gave me 2-3 days to rethink about my decision. I appreciate your patience boss. I must say a big thank you to you boss for thinking of me as the candidate for that director post. I would love to be there but.....if not because of pre-planned and approved posting order, i will without question and beyond doubt, accept the offer. 

Maaf boss...looking forward to be part of your team in the near future. 

Notes: The offer call by one of my bosses came in on 25 November 2016, Friday, at around 6.20pm, the day my current office held a farewell party for two other officers and me who are leaving to other work place.

1. Since it's a tropical country, ensure that you bring light clothing, comfy shoes, insect repellent and plenty of sunscreen;
2. Drug dealing and trafficking carry severe punishment;
3. Gambling is only permitted at Genting Highland Casino;
4. To drive in Malaysia, you'll need an International Driving Permit (IDP) but it is recommended that you take taxis to move about as it is easier;
5. You must have a certificate of inoculation for yellow fever if you're coming from infected countries. Vaccination for cholera and small pox are not necessary;
6. Always keep your belongings safely with you while you're out and about. Important document should be kept in your hotel safety deposit box;
7. Be careful with the authenticity of branded items as bootleg products are widely available
8. Tipping is not practised or expected at eateries. It's your prerogative if you do want to tip;
9. Have loose change handy with you at all times for taxis, buses and trains. Also, when taking a taxi, insist on using the meter; and
10. Most importantly keep hydrating!

Etiquette

The locals here are particular about etiquette simply because they are from different cultural backgrounds.

1. When visiting any home and places of worship, it's good manners to remove your shoes before entering the premises;
2. Certain places of worship have a dress code, so please follow instructions. Some might not allow photography. Just look out for signage;
3. When passing items (such as money) or pointing directions, it is considered polite to use the right hand;
4. When invited for a dinner, utensils are usually provided but it's customary for the Malays and Indians to eat using their right hand. The Chinese usually use chopsticks;
5. Purchase and consumption of alcohol is limited to patrons over 21 at non-halal establishments;
6. Cigarettes are sold to those age 18 and above sonly. Please look out for NON SMOKING signage, as smoking is prohibited or limited to certain areas in most airports, shopping malls, banks, hospitals, cinema halls and eateries;
7. It is courteous to say 'thank you' at the end of conversation;
8. Blatant public displays of affection (PDA) are frowned upon.

Pictures of various locations in Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley areas that have been affected by haze. For example, the visibility of KLCC and KL Tower were reduced significantly due to haze and smoke that produce burning smell.

Haze seems to be an annual event for Malaysia. Since the middle of the month of June 2013, haze reappeared which is originated from Kalimantan, Indonesia due to unethical open burning acts by palm oil planter and companies. The situation became worsen due to dry season.

Malaysia PM Mohd Najib Tun Razak on Sunday, 23 June 2013 declared a state of emergency status in Muar and Ledang of the Johor state after the API readings reached more than 750.

It is absolutely no issues in getting tour guides who can converse Arabic! and they are our Muslim brothers!
